Types of Cranes:

1) Tyre mounted

2) crawler type

Causes of crane accidents:

The main causes of accidents identified are:

a) Lack of planning and supervision

b) Incorrect location or installation of cranes

c) Failure to correctly calculate or estimate the load

d) Use of bad lifting gear

e) Defective appliances or machines

f) Lack of appropriate maintenance

Considerations while using cranes:

* Weight of work to lift

* Safe workload of the crane

* Height at which the work must be erected

* Center of gravity of work

* leverage

* Soil stability

* Weather conditions

Basic safety requirements for crane:

* Arrow angle indicator

* limit switch

* Overload limit switch

* Safe Load indicator (SLI)

Points to be remember :

* A maximum load crane of 50 tons does not mean that it can lift 50 tons in all conditions.

* The capacity of the crane varies depending on the angle / radius

* Therefore, always read the load chart before planning each lift

* The load chart given by a manufacturer can not be used for cranes from other manufacturers of the same capacity.

* Gross weight = Net weight + Weight of the lifting device + Weight of the crane block

* When lifting loads with cranes, the weight on the sling varies depending on the angle.
